Pisces - Sun, Moon, & Rising

Hello, dreamy Pisces!

I am Nancy, the owner of Astrology and Angel Mediums. I love astrology, so it felt like a natural effort to help people understand their own astrology a little bit better. I hope that with this effort, I can bring you some easy to comprehend astrology information. Plus, having an appreciation for what qualities, challenges, obstacles, and common characteristics are typically ingrained within your astrological makeup and personality, will assist you in being able to be more personally aware.

I have had numerous friends that are Pisceans, and I love the qualities of this watery sign. This a great article to show you how to work with what you got, how to understand what Pisces is, where the mythology comes from, and how to better create a picture of what it is like to be a native Pisces. So, welcome to my second installment of this ongoing series.

Pisces Mythology

And here fantastic fishes duskly float, Using the calm for waters, while their fires Throb out quick rhythms along the shallow air.

— Elizabeth Barrett Browning, A Drama of Exile

Venus and Love, Louvre, 1554, by Lambert Sustris

By most accounts, the mythology of Pisces follows a single legend:

In this Greek myth, the monster Typhon descends upon Mount Olympus, threatening all of the gods and goddesses, who flee from their home (with a couple key exceptions). As Typhon approaches, the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros (a.k.a. Venus and Cupid in Roman mythology) find themselves in need of escape.

Here's where you get to choose your own adventure. According to different versions of this legend, either Aphrodite and Eros turn into fish, two fish approach them and swim them away to safety, or they turn into fish AND two other fish take them to safety. Whichever version you prefer, truth be told, it doesn't really matter. One way or another, the two escape from Typhon thanks to two fish.

These two fish were later honored by being placed in the heavens as the constellation Pisces. It is for this reason that I tend to believe that there were two fish who were not Aphrodite and Eros, since during Typhon's assault on Mount Olympus, the other gods turned into animals as well, and were not turned into constellations.Note that the mythology of Pisces always refers to two fish, never one. Most versions of the Typhon escape legend speak of the tails of the fish being tied together to avoid losing each other. The constellation of Pisces represents two fish with their tails tied together.

A similar version of the story is told in Syrian mythology, where two fish known as the "Ikhthyes" (or "Ichthyes") were the ones who rescued Aphrodite and Eros. Later, a different Syrian myth tells of a large and mysterious egg appearing on the Euphrates river, where two fish (or possibly men with fish-tails according to some classical art) named Aphros and Bythos who brought the egg to shore and helped it hatch. Inside the egg was Aphrodite (as her Syrian counterpart Ashtarte).

Both stories have to do with some form of fish rescuing some form of Aphrodite via the river Euphrates. In both myths, the helpful fish were made into the Pisces constellation. It is believed that this legend is the reason why Syrians refused to eat fish.

Lastly, there are often questions as to the relevance of the mythology of Pisces in reference to Christian mythology. The fish is often used in Christian symbology to represent Jesus Christ. This is typically in reference to the tale of the "Loaves and Fishes Miracle", rather than to the Pisces myth.

And hence the water sign of Pisces, as we understand it now, was born.

Hey, baby....what's your sign?

Sun sign astrology is the form of astrology most commonly found in many newspaper and magazine columns. It is a simplified system of astrology which considers only the position of the Sun at birth, which is said to be placed within one of the twelve zodiac signs. This sign is then called the sun sign or star sign of the person born in that twelfth-part of the year. Most people are familiar with their sun sign, and always identify strongly with this image.

It is the sign that when people ask, is the one they know from magazines, newspapers, or being told by others of how *insert sign name here* they are being. Oh, you are being secretive and sexy.... pssshhhh... what a Scorpio! Wow, you're such a dedicated worker and you love having nice things, but you act so old.... what a Capricorn! Oh, you are being such a cry baby, drink like a fish, and can't deal with reality......Just blame it on my Pisces, baby! So on, and so forth! That is just scratching the surface! I am sure you have heard it all about being your sign. Well, astrology dives in a lot deeper than that.

When we are born the planets are all aligned in certain signs and angles. When someone asks about your natal chart, this is what they are asking about. What does your personal snapshot look like? Or how can you figure it out? Natal Charts are calculated for the exact time and location of the native's birth for the purposes of gaining insight into the native's personality and potential. Commonly used alternative names for the natal chart include birth chart, horoscope, natus, nativity, radix, geniture and genethliac chart, among others. The chart shows the positions of the sun, moon, planets, and potentially other celestial objects, all referred to as the native's "planets," within the frames of references defined by the astrological signs and houses.

This is a sample chart with the ruling signs, planets and houses included. You can see quick descriptions of the house descriptions.

One of my favorite free chart services is through Cafe Astrology. You will need your date, time, and place of birth in order to get the most accurate information.

Think of your birth chart as a 12 sliced pizza (see image above). Each slice may have it's own special toppings or flavor, or not much on there at all. This is important to remember. Each pizza (or every person) has different slices working in their favor (or challenging them). In this article, I will be discussing Pisces and how they can work their mojo in a way that is in line with being a native Pisces Sun, Moon, or Rising sign.

Pisces Sun

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

- Albert Einstein, Pisces

"Dreams are necessary to life."

-Anais Nin, Pisces

(The Sun is in Pisces from February 19 to March 20, depending on the year).

Oh, the compassionate and intutive Pisces! I am so grateful to know so many lovely Pisces women in my life who have become like soul sisters to me. They get me. They feel me. They help me dive deep into myself. Some of my bestest friends growing up were actually Pisceans! I love my little fishes!

This is what the Sun Sign (or glyph) looks like in your natal chart.

As the twelfth and last sign of the zodiac, Pisces contains within itself a little experience of all the signs. This gives Pisces Suns the ability to identify with people from all walks of life — from all backgrounds — in some way. These individuals are not only changeable and adaptable, they have open minds and tremendous understanding. Unfortunately, Pisces itself is often misunderstood. Pisces Suns may spend a good portion of their lives yearning for understanding, and the other part in a state of divine discontent. Suffering is sometimes glamorized in the Piscean world. A bit of a martyr syndrome with most Pisces Suns.

The symbol for Pisces is two fishes, bound together but moving in opposite directions. These fish represent your soul nature and your form nature. You have a form nature in order to experience the growth of your soul, yet the two can seem to struggle against each other. You find that pursuing your own personal material desires does not resolve this struggle, but only deepens it. You need to find a spiritual path that allows you both to satisfy your personal needs and desires, and to satisfy your spiritual yearning for significance.

Pisceans are not known to be cutthroat business types, nor are they given to throwing themselves out into the world in an aggressive manner. But make no mistake about it, Pisces can be extraordinarily successful when given the chance to express themselves. The arts, marketing, music, teaching, drama, healing arts...these are all fields in which Pisces can find and will need the space for expression. Their imagination, attunement to humanity, and remarkable intuition endow them with enviable gifts of insight and creativity.

Pisces is a sensitive sign — both sensitive to criticism and sensitive to others' feelings. This is what makes them absolutely brilliant friends and partners. One of the most naturally empathetic people, they are easily touched by human suffering. This kind and intuitive nature makes them believe in people, and they are deeply hurt by compassionless human behavior, and have a hard time saying no. Harsh realities are avoided either through escapist behavior or self-delusion; but every now and again reality does raise its ugly head, and hits Pisces over the head. This is a sad time indeed. Pisces retreats into their own world, self-pitying and giving pep talks to themselves ("I will never trust again!"). Rest assured, though, that these periods are rather short-lived and even useful. Pisces seems to derive energy from their (generally short) bouts of self-pity. They come back stronger, with a spring in their step, ready to face the world again, and just as, if not more, compassionate and trusting as they were before. Some might even wonder if Pisces finds pleasure in suffering. Sometimes this is the case, but most of the time, Pisces pulls a lot of creative energy from sadness. Pisces is the poet or artist with angst, although this trait is often more apparent with Moon in Pisces.

Some find Pisces' tendency to be late for appointments, spaced out behavior, and absent-mindedness amount to irresponsibility. Pisces would be shocked to know this, however. Who me? Pisces wonders. Irresponsible? Pisces Suns absolutely care—their love knows no bounds—but their retreats from ordinary life (whether they are as simple as daydreams or actual departures) that they so seem to need every now and again are not always understandable to no-nonsense signs, such as Virgo or Aries.

Many Pisces seem almost allergic to things like shopping lists, to do lists, maps, directions, and instructions, and for some brave souls, even watches — they prefer to feel their way through life than to follow some plan. And the more that you may try to imply your need for structure on their lives, the more they will rebel against it.

We find plenty of artists, poets, and musicians with Sun (and other personal planets) in Pisces. Piscean themes are woven throughout the songs of Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, for example.

Pisces is the sign of mysticism, mystery and the spiritual unknown. Pisces live in two worlds, the real world and the spiritual or mystical world where they interpret what they see into what they want. They do this to avoid all the realities of pain and suffering in the world. They have extremes of emotions and feel both good and bad intensively. Pisces have formidable intuitive ability. Most Pisces are somehow involved with occult or spiritualism. Pisces are very good at understanding people for they have the ability to delve into the psyche and see behind a person's motivations. Regretably, Pisces are prone to drug addiction and indulging lifestyles because of their eternal search for themselves and their fear of confrontation and having to change a situation, also they justify drug use by allowing it to get closer with their 'spiritual selves'. Once they aware this is why they are doing it, it will be easier to kick the habit. Pisces are not the pushovers that they may seem, in fact they have strength of character and will stand up for what they believe in and and they can do hard work for something they believe in. It is just the daily and mundane tasks that can make them seem as if they are space cadets. They can be very lazy but only in matters that they do not care about.

The Pisces Sun Sign personality is spiritual, compassionate and full of unconditional love. They believe that everyone is connected, no matter their differences. Natural peacemakers, using their natural intuitive nature to adapt to their environments, they bring these beautiful qualities to all of their relationships. They may be psychic, or at least feel a part of the universal consciousness. They are emotional and instinctual. Easily discouraged, they may find themselves feeling unappreciated, so they just pack up and move on to something else.

There are two sides to the Pisces Sun Sign personality… lost, isolated and depressed or visionaries who may be involved with healing, art, psychic arts or other spiritual practices. One feels they must choose between feeling human or divine, while the other knows how to incorporate both aspects for the greater good.

Those born with a Pisces Sun Sign are flexible, but it is this very flexibility that makes decision making difficult. They think in the abstract, which can make reality hard to deal with at times. It is easy for them to get stuck in limbo. They are tactful, charming, regal and reliable. They’re good listeners and can be very observant.

Pisces Sun Signs are generous with friends, and they always check their ego at the door when it comes to relationships. It is easy for them to get caught up in the fantasy of romance and then come crashing down when reality hits. They are loyal to a fault and prefer to be homebodies than to remain uprooted. They are faithful to their partners. They are usually popular with others because they are so easy going and affectionate. They find it easy to accept people for what they are, and they concern themselves with the problems of others before they deal with their own. All of this self-denial may prove wearing on them eventually. They need to take time to indulge themselves and replenish themselves once in awhile.

Pisces Sun Signs are incurable romantics. With the right partner, they can have a fairytale marriage, but with the wrong one, it will be a nightmare because they won't be willing to let go. They are often taken advantage of because they are so forgiving and believe that everyone truly is good. As a rule they usually make excellent parents.

Pisces Sun Signs are creative, and can do well in music, art or literature. They may feel their best work comes from outside of themselves. Even if they are not gifted artistically themselves, they have a good artistic sensibility. They make good photographers, dancers and film-makers. Because of their compassion, they also excel in nursing or as veterinarians. Design, law, library sciences, astronomy and architecture are frequent callings; as are religious posts or jobs that require psychic abilities. They can also use their creativity in the sciences to explore new theories. Their ability to focus pays off for them. They may appear to be workaholics, but they see material wealth as a means to an end.

The Pisces Sun Sign personality doesn’'t typically react well to stress or being confined (particularly when they feel vulnerable). Time alone is the best medicine for these emotional barometers. Methods of creative visualization or being able to get lost in a book or a movie can be therapeutic as well, and can be a natural instinctual way of hibernating from the cruelty of this world.

Poor Pisces Sun, constantly being misjudged by people frequently pegging them as wishy-washy. What you will find behind a vaguely directionless, spacey manner is a deep person with real dreams. And these dreamers are so intune with the needs of a higher power. Their dreams are more than getting that picket fence or making it up the corporate ladder. Pisces are tuned in to a higher purpose and their dreams transcend the individual. A deep love for humanity, and compassion that knows no bounds is found with this placement of the Sun.

Pisces Moon

"If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with."

– Michael Jackson, Moon in Pisces

"The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding. ”

- Leonardo da Vinci, Moon in Pisces

Explanation of Moon Signs and the Significance

This is what the Moon Sign (or glyph) looks like in your natal chart.

Your Moon sign describes your emotional and instinctual energies. Another key component in the makeup of the basic ego/personality, your Moon sign reveals those things you do instinctively, how you are likely to react emotionally, how you give and receive nurturing, as well as the genetic or cellular memories carried within the unconscious mind. It describes your emotional, instinctual, genetic and intuitive makeup.

Moon Signs help define our emotional development, or express the unconscious side of our personality. It explains why we do what we do. This is where we retreat for comfort, childhood memories, and peace. This can also be the place where anger, hate, jealousy and fear may be found. The Moon also influences our senses depending on its placement in the birth chart. Most people will have their Moon in a Sign that is different from their Sun. This is why many people with the same Sun Sign can be so different from each other. They may feel that when they read a description of their Sign, that it is not representative of them. It may feel incomplete, or even completely inaccurate. Moon Signs may be a much more accurate description of what a person is like.

The Moon is said to represent your instinctual self, which many people keep hidden. On points where your Sun and Moon Signs are compatible, they will work together to help you get through the hardships and accomplish your goals. Where they are not compatible, you will feel conflicting desires or be at odds with yourself in some way.

As a water sign, Pisces Moon natives tend to be a bit of an emotional and psychic sponge. At such times, it can be hard for them to separate their own feelings from those of others. They have a gift for empathy, but have to maintain healthy emotional boundaries, or they’ll easily lose their way. Those born with a Pisces Moon will often have strong psychic abilities. They find it easy to walk a mile in someone else's shoes and are amazingly compassionate and full of love. Unfortunately, this capacity also makes it easy for them to lose themselves in others' problems. They are natural romantics, and never forget a gift on Valentine's Day or someone's birthday.

They have a wonderfully silly sense of humor that some may find a bit off-base. Pisces Moon appears to know all the nuances of human behavior. They are easily amused. They may be labelled as "spaced out," but they are deeper than most people think. They are easily misunderstood since they often get lost in their dreams. Without the time to drift, Pisces Moon can become overwhelmed with reality. They can easily become despondent by those around them if they are not careful. These are perceptive souls who seem to be in touch with all the nuances and subtleties of human nature. Often this comes through in a strong sense of humor that is more of the receptive kind than the type of sense of humor that would make people the "life of the party". It's generally pretty easy to get them giggling.

I've heard Pisces Moon people talk of "reading" the crowd, its emotional sways, highs, dips and discord. That's why if your Moon is ruled by Neptune, you'll want to choose your company with extreme care. If you don't like your work atmosphere or are out of sync with your colleagues, it takes a huge toll. Being sensitive to the energies of those around you and where you are, you will need a lot of time to cleanse and replenish your own energies.

They have an inclination to relate with the pain and sufferings of other people and so they can be a source of great comfort to those in pain. Moreover, they have a healing touch that is compassionate and sympathetic. Pisces Moon people have big hearts that reach out to anyone that needs their help. Their instinctive understanding of the suffering of others can turn them into devoted agents for change. To avoid total burnout, they’ll need to learn ways to de-stress and release the weight of the world that they try to carry on their shoulders.

Lunar Pisceans are known to be dreamy and not always in touch with reality. However, though these people may not always show real-world savvy in day-to-day, practical affairs, they make up for this with remarkable intuition. They can put themselves in anybody's shoes with extreme ease. On the plus side, this endows them with remarkable compassion and love. The down side with this apparent ability to break down boundaries is that these people can easily lose themselves in the suffering of others.

Moon in Pisces people may get tagged as spaced out, but there's a lot more to them than meets the eye. They feel things out, and rely on their intuition. It just doesn't feel right for them to do otherwise. Their dreaminess can mean plenty of moments of absent-mindedness. These times of oblivion can land them in all sorts of predicaments with others who can too easily misunderstand these complex souls. Without plenty of space and time to daydream, Pisces Moons easily get overloaded with life. Give them room to be alone with themselves, and they're generally able to take on the world—even if their style when they do so is not always conventional or understandable.

Generally considered soft-hearted and sweet, Lunar Pisceans care about others and are easily touched by human suffering. This tendency gains them the reputation as suckers for sob stories and due to their deep empathetic nature, they may succumb victim to those looking for a pity party. Although this may sometimes be true, many Lunar Pisceans learn, in their lifetimes, how to discern between sincerity and manipulation. Still, they definitely do have plenty of soft corners. This Moon Sign sees themselves in everyone, so they empathize with almost everyone in one way or another. They need to learn not to absorb what others are feeling, as they can be overwhelmed with the emotions they sense around them. They have an uncanny ability to understand things they have not actually experienced, which makes them very talented performers if they choose that line of work. For those who are too shy to climb up on stage, Moon in Pisces can be a talented writer, musician or artist.

In personal relationships, Lunar Pisceans are giving and yielding. They are generally open on a sexual level, in a quiet way. Their fantasies can be far-reaching, intricate, and rich with emotion. Love is closely tied in with their sexuality. Most Lunar Pisceans are shy; they need a trustworthy lover to bring them out.

There's a delightful accepting side to Moon in Pisces that is sometimes mistaken for weakness. Pisces is the twelfth and last sign of the zodiac, and thus carries with it a little of each sign of the zodiac. As a result, they see themselves reflected in the behavior of others, giving them seemingly boundless compassion. Since the Moon represents our instinctive nature, Moon in Pisces seems to know how things feel without actual experience. For example, they may have never had sex, but seem to know all about it — even, or especially, the subtleties of it. The ones that aren't too shy make awesome actors and actresses. This ability to empathize even in the absence of experience gives them an open mind and heart. Most long to express this through writing, music (both listening and making), poetry, and art — in fact, the happiest people with this position do just that.

Though some are doormats, most Pisces Moon people instinctively know when they're due for a much-needed recharge. It's at these times that they retreat from the world (and its harsh realities) if only to gather strength to face everything and everyone again. Solitude is important to them, but they also need people, so their retreats will usually be short-lived. Pisces Moon individuals believe; and, let's face it, the world needs Piscean leaps of faith.

Pisces Moon Sign tries to avoid the mundane details of life. They are curious, almost to the point of recklessness. As a child, they can easily be bullied into going along with the crowd. This sensitivity needs to be nurtured rather than stomped on. When they feel unappreciated, they can retreat into a fantasy world that is may be hard to let go. They are easily discouraged and may fall into self-pity or a preoccupation with what can go wrong. It is important for them to have a meaning to their life. They are not attracted to material possessions, but they do like to show their emotions.

If they don't take care of themselves, Pisces Moon can get walked on. To prevent that, they need to recognize when they need a break to recharge themselves. While they need companionship, solitude is equally as important. They are very sensitive, and can easily be hurt by insults, rejection and criticism. These soft-hearted people can get a bit of help from a religion or philosophy that will give them more strength than they have themselves. This Moon can find a lot of fulfillment by being involved with charities or spiritual causes. They are romantic and creative. Being very imaginative, they can be farsighted or impractical, depending on the situation. They may develop anxieties during their lifetimes. They make loyal friends who appreciate beauty in all its forms.

What does Ascendant or Rising mean?

This is what the Ascendant (or Rising) Sign (or glyph) looks like in your natal chart.

The Ascendant (or rising sign) is often considered the mask one wears when meeting others. Perhaps it is most aptly thought of as the automatic responses to one's environment. The Ascendant shows our natural defenses and how we cope with day-to-day issues. The energies of the sign and condition of the Ascendant are most overt and obvious to others. The Ascendant shows an individual's first, natural reaction to new people and situations.

The rising sign, or Ascendant, (the external self) is second in importance only to the Sun-Sign (the inner self). For most people who know you less than intimately, it may be the determining factor as they see, identify, and know you. It also influences how you view, act, and react to others and the environment. While your Sun-Sign is determined by your birth date (and in some border-line cases the time), the rising sign (ascendant) must be calculated for the exact birth time and place. Theoretically, the rising sign advances one degree (of 360 degrees of a full circle -- a 24-hour day) every four minutes, meaning each 30-degree sign takes about two hours to move upward -- due to counterclockwise axial rotation of planet earth -- across the ascendant point: the eastern horizon.

The Ascendant sign will always be the First House (or slice) of your chart. This house rules the head, face, upper lip, and upper jaw, cerebrum (brain). The 1st House (or pizza slice) is about identity. This house also rules the personality, attitude, how you see the world, how you look, appearances, your worldly outlook, and self-awareness and how you respond. It describes how you see yourself and how others see you. It can also describe your physical appearance. Other keywords include: the self, ego, anima, projected image, expression of inner motivation, soul purpose, initial approach to life, the aura.

BIG TIP TO REMEMBER --- Anyone who has the same Sun Sign as your Rising Sign will automatically feel like or become your competition. So all Pisceans are your competition. Notice how you act and react in a group when a Pisces is present. Both of you will be competing for the attention of anyone else present. This should not turn into a dual. This is something you should know and use in order to build your character and personality. You should be a better person because of this information and you should leave all people better than you found them, including your competition. After all, your Rising Sign is all about your personality, appearance and worldly outlook. These competitive people can be just about anyone - spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, friends, family members, children, co-workers, etc. It's just downright fascinating!

PISCES - "I BELIEVE, THEREFORE I AM" - This is your motto for this particular house. If Pisces is your "Rising Sign" aka "Ascendant". Your Rising Sign is the sign that rules your 1st House cusp. If you look at your chart, there is a graphic (or glyph) at the beginning of the Natal Chart that will show you where your Ascendant is located. Because Pisces is on your 1st House cusp, you would take on the nature, characteristics and tendencies of Pisces in this particular house.

The following is from the website on Pisces Rising and characteristics of this Ascendant - http://www.elbertwade.com/

"Deeply romantic, mystical, introspective, peace-loving, religious, unselfish, melancholy, dreamy, morbid, fraudulent, psychopathic, and sometimes-unreliable Neptune -- the planet which awakens the "psychic" instincts -- rules the facade, external ego, and personality of those born with Pisces rising. The potential for creativity is a great asset, but only if it is used properly. Unfortunately, you often just dream and seldom make your visions into the important and exciting realities they could become. Dream to create, not to escape from the true realities which abound in the everyday environment.

Artistic potential is great, and you may excel in many of the fine arts -- painting, music, sculpting, design, etc. You have a natural sense of rhythm which can aid your progress if you can manage to "get in step" with the more productive "beats" which suit your artistic nature and temperament. Strive to be in an environment which is peaceful and creatively stimulating.

The height, more often than not, will be below average. In some rare instances a few of you may be tall overall, however the physical features (face, hands, feet) may be small, almost doll-like in some rare cases. The body may be slightly fleshy and can have a pear shape. The limbs usually are short. The feet may be emphasized in some way or another -- either small, large, well-formed or somehow afflicted. The hair is fine to the touch. The forehead may be very arched. The eyes often are beautiful, soulful, dreamy; they may be black, brown or deep green. There is a general roundness and fullness to the face. The teeth may not be too strong, sometimes requiring extra care.

You are something of a chameleon in that you are so impressionable that you tend to imitate those you are near. You have a tendency to absorb and become a part of the environment. The basic nature is introverted, malleable and likely dominated by the emotions. You are basically idealistic, altruistic, and well-meaning. Because of the desire to be all things to all people, you often are your own worst enemy. You are highly intuitive and extremely imaginative. There sometimes is an aptitude for mathematics and highly abstract and involved thinking. However, the main guide in your life seems to be instinct, rather than logic. Memory may, at times, be decidedly poor -- with absent-mindedness marked.

The feelings and emotions are all-encompassing. You are sentimental, affectionate, and romantic. You can fall in love with love too easily and too often. Your moods may alternate between one extreme and another. You are very changeable and may show a completely different emotional facet to every person you know. Escapism may be your greatest shortcoming, resulting partially from an inherent timidity, lack of self-confidence, and a desire not to want to cope with everyday problems and the realities. Sometimes a weakness of character leads to vacillation, procrastination, and even prevarication. Fortunately, you are ever willing to try to mend your ways. You have a rather absorbent constitution and may be somewhat susceptible to others' ailments. Self-indulgence -- alcohol, drugs, nicotine, caffeine, sex, and unwise diet -- can play havoc with your health. A positive attitude, light and airy surroundings, and cheerful associates are most important to maintaining your good health.

Satisfying the spritual side is also sigificant. Some of life's experiences can be chaotic, even pathetic. Seven-year cycles are very pronouneed in your life. The main characteristics and qualities of a desirable nature are expressed by the following: inspiration, idealism, concentration, hospitality, service, peace, refinement, artistic ability, purity, perception, order, and method. Words and terms indicating characteristics for correction are negativism, diffidence, dreaminess, lethargy, carelessness, indolence, indecision, submissiveness, changeability, feelings of inferiority, timidity, self-pity, escapism, and criticism."

Like their symbol, the fishes, Pisces Rising likes to go with the flow. They appear at first glance to be gentle, peace-loving artistic types, but the way they keep their hearts and minds open keeps them changeable and unpredictable. The typical Pisces Ascendant can seem to be a different person today than they were yesterday. Usually shy and quiet, tomorrow they may be passionate and exuberant. This allows them to blend in with many types of people. Pisces Rising is very impressionable, like the sand in the water. They are dreamy and soft-hearted. They are irresistibly charming and intriguing.

Pisces Ascendant sees the world through glasses tinted by their opinion, so they have a difficult time being objective. Decision making is difficult for them as well. They are so flexible that they don't want to make plans for anything in the future. They don't want to face any harsh realities. Organization is not their strong point.

The Pisces native has a hospitable, kind and courteous disposition. They are the most idealistic sign and the most impressionable. Because they are represented by the two fish that cannot make up their mind, they will float toward whichever story sounds better until they settle on one, which shows how impressionable they really are. Once they settle, they are locked in to that ideal. Pisces has a great imagination; they are emotional and have a quiet, orderly manner.

Because they are one of the most intuitive signs, they are mediumistic, receptive and telepathic. Their inspirational faculty can always be increased if they choose to increase it. Pisces does have a tendency to observe and name other people's faults or deficiencies. If someone has not completed a project, the Pisces will be the first to point it out.

The confidence of the Pisces is usually lacking because they simply have a tough time making up their mind. There are times when they can be over-anxious and somewhat discouraged or disheartened. They are capable of psychometric, intuitive and telepathic qualities.

Pisces Ascendant wants a stable, reliable partner. They need someone who is realistic and practical; who will help keep them grounded a bit. They are very emotional and compassionate… so much so that they can become their own victims due to their massive vulnerability. They can become their own worst enemy. They dislike confrontation, but are not above using manipulative game playing to get what they desire. A true romantic, the right pairing with a Pisces Ascendant can result in a creative romance worthy of a novel.

Sometimes others will find it somewhat difficult to deal with you and you find it puzzling as to why others don't immediately understand your ideas. Your vision is probably just years ahead of its time so it is no wonder others may find you impractical.

You have well developed psychic energies and should always trust your intuition Pisces. You are tuned into others in such a way that supersedes the typical mental or verbal communication between humans. You are clairvoyant, channeling the highest spiritual truth for others during this life.

You are soft, sensitive and actually quite unafraid to explore what life offers you, even if you choose actions people and circumstances that convention frowns upon. You believe that to find your ideals it could involve exploring those things that tradition regards as taboo. But for all of this you would rather tread your own path than die wondering "what if".

Pisces Rising is imaginative and creative. They may have artistic talents and psychic abilities to share. They may turn to spiritual matters or philosophy, and they have a great admiration for education, no matter what level they did or did not attain. Pisces Ascendant likes travel, sports and dancing. They can be very capable when they build up confidence in themselves.

Physically, they may be sensitive to anesthesia and other medications. Pisces Rising does not want to stand out in the crowd, and dislikes attracting attention to themselves. They are generous, sensitive and sentimental. On the other hand, they can manipulate others to feel sorry for them so they can benefit.

Some may see Pisces Rising as someone to take advantage of because they are so open and compassionate. They are sensitive to negative energy and criticism. It is difficult for them to shield themselves from either one. Pisces Ascendant may feel a deep lonesomeness that they can't do anything about. If they can utilize this alone time for meditation or other introspection, they may be able to use their talents to their benefit. They may do well in a career helping others, or a creative endeavor. Pisces Ascendant likes secrets. They use subtlety in life to ease their way. Their lesson in life is to learn to live their life rather than to dream it away. Pisces Rising may have many pets because they like having others to care for. Some may excel as animal communicators if they can develop their gifts to the point of being a reliable skill.

They move about the world in a vaguely directionless, gentle manner. They come across as artists and lovers of peace; but their open minds and hearts can give them a chameleon-like persona. Others are not always sure who they'll meet from one day to the next with a Pisces rising person. Although often quiet and shy, another day may find them talkative and passionate. They are hugely impressionable, have a dreamy disposition, and project a soft-hearted personality. Pisces rising sees the world the way they want to see it at any given time, so objectivity is not necessarily a strong point. Neither is decision-making!

People with Pisces rising resist any kind of labeling--their characters are changeable, and they don't want to be pinned down or pegged in any way. Theirs is a restless, searching nature that cannot be happy with any one way of living or being. Pisces rising avoids cold, hard facts and harsh realities like the plague. They don't have a decisive plan for tomorrow or even today, preferring to keep things open. Since they change their minds frequently enough, and like to "feel" their way through life, too much organization or structure can be seen as very limiting.

Pisces rising people walk around with their heads in the clouds, and even when you do have their attention, their dreaminess is almost always apparent.

These people look for a stable partnership— one that is reliable. Pisces rising people gravitate to partners who keep them on their toes, and they often will pass off the little details and reality checks to their significant other. They seem to need a practical, realistic partner.

Pisces Ascendants often have a sensitivity to drugs, and sometimes are prone to allergies that come and go. Their physical constitutions seem to be less resistant than most.

Pisces rising people often possess an irresistible charm that comes on in a quiet way, with a soft aura about them. Both their appearance and mannerisms are usually quite intriguing to others.

With Pisces rising your sensitivity is both your gift and your challenge. Learning to recognize the impulses and feelings that stir through you for what they are, and then find an outlet for their expression is most useful. Focusing on the qualities given by your Sun and Moon signs will also help you define a path through life. Other people often provide the discrimination, caution and common sense that this sign needs to develop. Thus you may prefer to partner with more analytical types who can give a rational, no-nonsense assessment of any situation. There may be a tendency to project onto others your romantic ideas for yourself, and judge and criticize those who do not meet up to this vision, rather than to foster realistic expectations and limits within the self. With Pisces rising you may need to balance great compassion, creativity and sensitivity with the constant urge of wanting to escape from your individual self (and sometimes life) by merging with something greater than your self. This may be a romantic ideal, a spiritual dream or a nihilistic vision with no future. Whatever the image is, your challenge is to learn how to manifest your many gifts, and at the same time, stay grounded on the earthly plane.

Please keep in mind that all of the pieces of your "pizza" are working together. So while some of these qualities might be very present in some, they may be less apparent in others. No two charts are the same, and these are generalized views of how astrology can affect our personalities, idiosynchracies, and how we are perceived by others.

The characteristics of a Pisces Ascendant described above are modified by planets conjunct the Ascendant, planets that aspect the Ascendant, and the position of the ruling planet of the sign on the Ascendant. For example, a person with a Pisces Ascendant with its ruling planet, Neptune, in Sagittarius will respond to the environment a little differently than another person, also with a Pisces Ascendant, but whose Neptune is in Scorpio. Similarly, a person with a Pisces Ascendant who also has Neptune conjunct it will "behave" differently than someone with a Pisces Ascendant who does not have that aspect in their natal charts.
