How To - Color Therapy

Hello, dearest friends! As promised, I said I would dedicate more time and space to creating more valuable content that covers a lot of the things I have had to deal with and overcome on my spiritual journey. One of the most fun and simple things that most of us overlook in life, is color. And with that also the fun healing that comes from Color Therapy.

Think of how valuable color is in your life. Sometimes we choose certain things based on our color preference. We can make a statement to stand out, blend in, or even create a new world with them. Have you ever wondered why you are attracted to certain colors at certain times of your life? This is not just random.

I figured I would provide a small (and hopefully helpful) guide with out of the box ideas on how to use color for therapy and to help us all heal what we're carrying around. Think of the colors that bring you peace. Have you ever tried so very hard to forgive that indiscretion? How about trying to get rid of all those nasty burdens and bad memories you carry around with you? There are some things that are just too tough to let go of without finding a creative way to do it that works for you. Sometimes, letting go of the past is not as easy and you think but fear not, there is a solution!

Colors are something that many of us get to enjoy, some more than others. While many people can see the color spectrum, there are a few people who genetically can not see certain colors. This is known as color blindness and it affects about 4.5% of the population. To understand color therapy and how to use it for healing, let us understand what color is first.

From Wikipedia:

Color is the characteristic of human visual perception described through color categories, with names such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple. This perception of color derives from the stimulation of cone cells in the human eye by electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum. Color categories and physical specifications of color are associated with objects through the wavelength of the light that is reflected from them. This reflection is governed by the object's physical properties such as light absorption, emission spectra, etc.

The photo-receptivity of the "eyes" of other species also varies considerably from that of humans and so results in correspondingly different color perceptions that cannot readily be compared to one another. Honeybees and bumblebees for instance have trichromatic color vision sensitive to ultraviolet but is insensitive to red. Papilio butterflies possess six types of photoreceptors and may have pentachromatic vision.[3] The most complex color vision system in the animal kingdom has been found in stomatopods (such as the mantis shrimp) with up to 12 spectral receptor types thought to work as multiple dichromatic units.[4]

The science of color is sometimes called chromatics, colorimetry, or simply color science. It includes the study of the perception of color by the human eye and brain, the origin of color in materials, color theory in art, and the physics of electromagnetic radiation in the visible range (that is, what is commonly referred to simply as light).

So if colors are mere perception, how can include a light spectrum into healing? Lightworking is also color healing, for many that consider themselves lightworkers use various color lights to protect, heal, cleanse, ground, and so forth. We use these colors that coordinate with the different chakras, we use crystals that can reflect certain colors and assist in healing certain aspects, and many use visualization while meditating - such as pillars of light, using white light, or even various colors of light to connect to certain Ascended Masters and Angels. Color saturates almost every corner of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not.

Have you ever wondered why you are attracted to certain colors at certain times of your life? This is not just random. The Angels want you to know that your favorite colors change as you grow and evolve. Each color has a representation of a stage but it varies and changes for each individual person because we are all unique. Your intuition combined with your Spirit Guides can let you know why your favorite color is just that if you will ask them.

Below are some examples of how to work with certain colors and also understanding why you may sometimes be drawn to particular colors. For me, Green and Pink have always been colors I gravitate towards, but the last few years Blue tones have taken over in various way in my life. The energies these color bring into my life allow me to reconnect and soothe certain aspects that are ready to be addressed. I also associate certain colors with certain angels and see their presence radiate with those colors. Think about your colors that you are called to infuse your life with at this time. Are they colors that you call your favorite? Or are they colors that allow you to feel more balanced, more powerful, more energetic? Each color has it's own energetic stamp that is special to us as individuals. I remember as a child my favorite color was purple; part of this reason was because it was deep and mysterious to me. The eighties and nineties were a wonderful period to be a child because there was so much self expression and freedom as a child. While the 80s and 90s were dominated with bright neons and vibrant colors, I chose black and purple as the colors that represented me. I was a serious kid, who spent so much time in the library, who would not mind playing alone, or spend hours drawing and coloring.

As I entered my teenage years my favorite color changed from purple to green and bright fuschia pink. These colors were fresh and vibrant. I moved from my deeply brooding type of personality to a more fun and open person. I started going out with friends, being social, was even a cheerleader. I loved these colors as they made me feel so at peace.

Now that I am in my mid-thirties, blue has been following me around. This was a very ‘cool’ color at that time but something really drew me to it and I looked for it everywhere I went. I realize now this color represented needing to calm and tone my emotions down. This color brought me down from that party girl energy. It is very calm and soothing and allowed me to relax into myself where I needed to be. Baby Blue is also the color of Archangel Haniel and I know she is with me a great deal during these trying years - especially, in helping me stay out of trouble and centered in peace and calm. What colors have surrounded your life? What do they mean? You can easily discover just that by sitting down with a notebook and a pen. 1. Close your eyes and clear your mind into a meditative state. After a few minutes think back to your earliest years and what color you fancied the most. 2. Write it down and then ask silently or out loud: ‘Why was this color relevant to me at this time?’ 3. Listen with your open mind, write down anything you hear, sense, feel or see. These will be your answers. Have fun with this exercise and most of all enjoy the journey of discovering who you are and where your soul has been.

Color therapy, or chromotherapy, is the method of treating ailments through the use of color. Color therapy can be done by shining an appropriate color on an area of the body. It can also be done through the eyes by looking at a particular color, though this should be done with the utmost care to avoid any strain on the eyes. It is a complementary therapy, and should not be used as an alternative to professional medical care. Its results vary and cannot be guaranteed - its efficacy will in large part be dependent on the individual.

To explore how colors heal and how we can utilize their frequency in aiding us, see the colors below.

Important colors for use in color therapy

GREEN

This is the most basic color of all in healing. It is the color which you always use first and last. No matter what you are ailing, start off and finish with an application of green. It is the safest color of all to use. It is a color which can be applied all over yourself or it can be concentrated on to any one part of the body. The green should be taken from the middle of the color spectrum, neither too blue nor too yellow. This green is the great color of balance, which harmonizes the flow of prana or universal life force, throughout the psychic centers. It operates, as do all other colors, firstly on the aura, the reflection of which reacts upon the physical body.

Now this will tend to balance any imbalance which may have been brought about through the stimulation of red or the more subtle stimulation of the blues. As green is the great balancer and harmonizer it causes many people to become very relaxed. It tends to counteract subtle energies which have built up in one nerve ganglia and causing starvation of another nerve ganglia.

This color is also closely related to the Heart Chakra. Use heart chakra meditations to assist you in opening, clearing, and cleansing this chakra in order to really feel the beautiful effects of green in your life.

The Heart chakra is where our lower and upper chakras come together as a way to continuously inform and guide us. It is our internal compass that's forever providing "sign posts" through our core feelings and desires to encourage and support alignment. The heart is where we extend and receive love, compassion empathy and generosity to ourselves and others with grace and ease.We are not afraid to be vulnerable and speak out truth - from our Heart. If it is imbalanced, we may be clingy in relationships friendships, experience jealousy, or close ourselves up in an attempt to "protect". When balanced, separateness dissolves, and abundance, gratitude, joy, and magic flow to and from you. Also known as the fourth or Heart chakra, the Anahata, is our energy center from which love, joy, happiness and compassion emanate from. It also allows us to feel sorrow, sadness, anger, and lust, all of which are feelings of the lower heart chakra - but essential in understanding ourselves in this World, so that we may over-come them and move to the Higher Heart, where Pure, Unconditional Love exists.

You add more green into your diet, wear green, meditate with the color green around you, or even spend time outdoors where there is a lot of greenery to help balance and draw in the power of green into your life. Work with green in order to heal emotional imbalances that may be affecting your energy and how you connect with others.

YELLOW

Yellow is mental activity, learning, intellect, acquired/learned knowledge, little will, individuation, alertness, concentration, focus, cheerful, sun, warmth, cleaning, fear, left brain, empowerment, self-esteem, confidence. In relation to the physical body, it is good for combating fear (obsessive, habitual), digestion, stomach, gall bladder, liver, immune system, fortifies endocrine and nervous systems, nerve tonifier, motor stimulant, assimilation, lateral disturbances, helps chronic to become acute. This color clearly says "here I am".

Yellow is the color which signifies wisdom. Any mental deficiency, no matter how it shows itself, will be relieved by the use of yellow if concentrated on to small areas of the body. For all cases where some mental blockage or other shows itself, or mental anxiety is present - yellow is a beautiful energy to work with.

The mental blockage may be brought on by bad circulation which caused the brain cells to be starved of lymph and blood. It may be caused by incorrect breathing, which brings about mental deterioration more quickly than anything else or it may be the result of a nervous breakdown or severe mental strain. In the latter case it could no longer be considered a mental blockage, but rather - mental tiredness.

Yellow is the color which will relieve this type of condition. Yellow is fresh and reminds me of sunshine and sunflowers, as well as dandelions. It is a cheery color that can assist us in breaking through mental fog, sluggishness, or even anxiety. You can use yellow in your food, wear the color yellow, or even surround yourself with the color to connect to the subtle energies of this color.

The Solar Plexus chakra is also closely related to the color yellow. The Solar Plexus is connected to our intuition, our personal power, our gut, and also how we present ourselves to the world.

The Solar Plexus is like the radiant sun, a source of natural energy and power. It is the foundation of the metal body, and it enables us to pick up vibrations and essences from people, places and things, it also involves personal power, energy and self-control, emotional issues and issues of self-acceptance.

This chakra physically influences muscles, stomach, digestion, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, metabolism and the nervous system. When the third chakra is balanced it brings the capacity to accomplish that which we want and allows us to relax and enjoy these accomplishments. We are able to successfully wield our own power and will which attracts prosperity and balance in turn allowing us to feel safe and secure. We are more disciplined and better able to organize, able to deal with changes and see that they lead to new and better things. Life seems better and we are able to concentrate on learning. A lack of balance in the third chakra may be due to a lack of balance in the first two Chakras. If this chakra is not working properly it is inclined to create negative influences in the physical this can be seen in the form of ulcers, digestive problems or liver and pancreas complaints, it can lead to anger and frustration, as well as problems dealing with power and authority. Anger is the product of to much self-power, everything feels like an up hill struggle which is full of conflicts. Frustration is the product of to little self-power everything feels to demanding and others place too many demands on us.

Connect with the color yellow to help heal aspects of yourself that are not aligned with your purpose, and also how you use your power in your day to day life. Spending time outdoors on a sunny day is very beneficial to soak in yellow energy.

ORANGE

Orange is joy, happiness, warmth, creativity, pleasure, sensuality, sexuality, generosity, moves energy gently, awakening to wisdom within oneself, sociable, aspiring, gregarious. In relation to the physical body, it is good for depression, cramping anywhere in body, relaxant, sclerosis, heart disease, boosts immune system, circulation, raises blood pressure, artery disturbance (especially in legs), genitals, fear (alternate with blue), endocrine balancer (when used with blue), cleans and purifies hormonal system.

This is a stimulating color which can be given to the spleen, liver, kidneys, heart and indeed to any organ which helps to promote good circulation.

All the internal organs such as liver, kidneys, bowels can be stimulated by this color. Orange is the great revitalizing color and if given in conjunction with Spiritual Healing and other forms of natural treatments it can often supplement them and act as a trigger.

Orange is also closely linked to the Sacral chakra. It is the home of our creativity and also our fertility. This is linked to our desire to express our unique self and personal brand of creativity. It is literally a creative hotspot! It's purpose is to explore and create self - the who I am and who I wish to be a part of us.

The shadow side of the sacral chakra is that the ego over to exploit our divine nature if we are not self aware. When there is an imbalance, the feeling of "never enough" can underpin your life creating a breeding ground for addictions - sex, chocolate, drugs, medium, and consumerism. When balanced, a sense of creative expression, freedom and flow is what is experienced, leaving you feeling open and fulfilled. Love, self love, sexual expression, identify, and creativity are the primary focus. Orange can be the gateway to your sexuality and creativity. The sacral chakra is located around the womb/stomach area. The second chakra is believed to be the place from which we give birth, not literally but in its most creative sense. In the same way that the Empress in the Major Arcana of the Tarot is the great mother of all things, our sacral chakra is the origin of our power to create and experience abundance as well as the connection to our sexuality. This area is considered important across many ancient and spiritual traditions. Repressing our sexuality or creativity can inhibit our power. When it comes out our sexuality, this may mean loosening up around the labels that we use to define ourselves by who and how we love. We are all divine beings, capable of the most incredible love and intense connections and to try and constrain that magnificence within a word, a label or an identity can only place a limit around all that we are.

Ways to connect to orange can be through foods, wearing the color, surrounding yourself with the color and also doing more creative projects. Pursue the things you want to create. Dancing and moving the body also stimulate this chakra.

RED

Red is hot, initiating, pushes through, fire, igniting, stimulating, vitality, anger, life-force energy, revolution, change, ambition, grounding, Earth, Gaia, power, war, passion, alert, danger, pioneering, activity and force without consciousness, blood, positive, aggression, liberation, survival, material side of life, primal, awakening, emerging. In relation to the physical body, Red is good for circulation, chronic illness, non-infected wounds, scar tissue, strengthens kidneys, heart, muscles, blood, lungs, bones. Red lives in the Root or Base Chakra.

Bright crimson red is even a more potent stimulator than orange. As the light frequencies of red are slow and very long, they have high penetrating properties, therefore can be used to stimulate the aura (and physical body) to such an extent that circulatory blockages can be cleared.

The base chakra is linked to our ability to ground and connect our basic needs in our primal instincts. It is a chakra that receives and holds our basic programming from family, creating our foundational beliefs around personal and collective safety and security. If you experience "tribal" isolation, financial struggle, or disconnection, this may indicate there is an imbalance, blockage, or wound requesting to be healed. When the base chakra is clear and healthy, you'll feel grounded, balanced, and focused with an innate trust in yourself, life and the universe despite uncertainty. This energy center is situated at the base of the spine and is most closely related to all of your earthly issues; such as survival, the physical body, issues of money, sustenance, safety, and shelter. Physical movement strengthens this chakra. Walk, dance, work in the garden - do anything that will get you moving. By energizing this chakra, you strengthen your right to "have" and you will be blessed with a loving and supportive relationships that you truly deserve. So, get out there and start moving your body. Energize yourself with that life force that you are seeking. The more balance that you become, the easier that life becomes. To connect with red - surround yourself with the color, wear more red,

eat beautiful berries and red foods.

BLUE

Blue causes most people to relax. It is calming, deep inner peace/"peace that surpasses all understanding", nurturing Mother and protecting/benevolent Father, deep, restful, openness, cooling, relaxing, assists in making deep changes, higher mental activities (3rd eye), insight, wisdom, sky, water, sadness, faithful/true blue, unity, safety, godliness, communication that comes through us, clarity. In relation to the physical body, Blue is anti-bacterial, anti-infection, anti-cramping, headaches, helps farsightedness, facilitates restful sleep, pain relieving, nervousness, insomnia, hemorrhage, herpes, warts, lowers blood pressure, fever. It creates the open space for clear communication at the throat and resonates with the Throat Chakra.

This chakra is your personal assistant tool which not only audibly send a powerful message to the world, but also imbues the toning frequency of the feeling/emotion into what you are communicating. It's a double dose of power! The throat chakra is the tool with which we speak from our heart with purpose and passion as well as expressing the higher wisdom from our sixth and seventh chakras. When open and balanced we are able to express this with honesty, integrity, ease and joy. When blocked we may feel silenced, frustrated, or misunderstood. Our throat chakra isn't just for sending our message and communications out into the world, it is also an important part of your receiving of clairsentient messages. It is an integral part of your intuitive system, and is easily blocked when you are unable to be yourself around others. If you are not saying what you feel, or if there is a discrepancy between your words and your emotions, the throat chakra will become blocked. This may manifest itself physically, in a sore or scratchy throat, or persistent cough. If you are feeling that you are not “heard” or taken seriously, you may suffer a loss of your voice. What are you not saying? And why? Usually the why part is the easy part, we are avoiding judgement, disapproval, or causing pain to another… or all of the above. What we must realize is that the truth will not only set us free, but it will set those around us free too! When you have the courage to speak your truth, you give permission to others to do the same. When the fifth chakra is balanced, it allows for free communication helping us to feel centered and happy. It also helps us while we are meditating to connect with our higher guidance. If this chakra is not working properly it can create negative influences in the physical this can be seen in the form of sore throats, communication problems, ear aches or infections, chronic colds, thyroid problems, speech difficulties, chronic tiredness and depression, it can also lead to control of others through deceit and dishonesty, It the energy flow is too great it can make us inflexible, dominating, egotistical, big-headed, causing us to have a self righteous attitude. A lack of energy can cause us to be nervous and frightened causing introversion, and tending to keep our thoughts and our self to our self, also opposing any kind of change.

To connect with the color blue, sky gazing, surrounding yourself with to color and throat chanting all seem to help bring the relaxing power of Blue back into my life. As there are no naturally occurring blue foods, I would recommend wearing the color and using blue crystals to reconnect with these energies.

INDIGO

Indigo is the higher mind that is connected to the all-that-is, the akashic records, the cosmic library. It is the color that makes contact with your "inner vision" or intuition, that part of you which sees beyond the five senses. It resonates at the causal Chakra at the back apex of the head. Indigo says claim your inner power. It resonates at the Ajna or Third Eye Chakra.

This is all about your insight and awareness. This is where you get to connect to your own intuition and Highest Self. Communication with the Universe, your own awareness, and Intuition are all deep seated within this area. So, I urge all of you to take some time today and focus on this lovely chakra and ensure that you are seeing everything, as it really is. Energizing this chakra will help you to intuitively know what others are thinking, feeling, and saying. This insight will go a long way in forming and building much stronger and better bonds. The third eye chakra is beneficial in allowing you to see a better and brighter future for yourself! The Third Eye, Inner Eye or 6th Chakra, is where we connect to the mental plane of our existence. Our ideas, dreams, goals, values and our “self” image all begin here! It is by our thoughts that we are able to express ourselves in the world, and it is from our thoughts that we are able to make our dreams a reality! In developing our inner perception through meditation we begin to understand that all events in our life happen for a reason and we see everything for what it is, not as we think it is. We begin to understand that we are the Dream Weaver in this intricately designed web of reality! This is our gateway into higher realms of consciousness. When one becomes enlightened you understand fully, without a doubt that we are truly all One and that our idea of separation from one another is nothing more than an illusion.

To connect with Indigo, eat more deep colored berries, use this color to help you feel more connected. I like to meditate with this color and have a few crystals of this shade that assist me to connect more fully to the Third Eye chakra.

VIOLET

Violet can be used all over the body, but to apply it lower than the hips would be a waste of these wonderful vibrations, which are of high spiritual content. This stimulates emotions, meditation, inspiration, intuition, inner emotional release, opening inner doors, stimulates dreams, wisdom, spirituality, higher mind, power, Thy will, letting go, vision, transformation, alchemy, loyalty, synthesis, integration, mysticism, clairvoyance/ clairaudience/

clairsentience, service, union, artistry, balance of male and female. In relation to the physical body, it is good as for menopause, spleen, sedative, relaxant, build leucocytes, lymphatic relaxant, soothes solar plexus, neutralize mercury from fillings, anti-viral. Violet, a combination of blue and red, connects the spirit and matter of yourself at the Crown Chakra.

Violet tends to bring great relaxation and also like blue, can often be felt as waves of coldness. It does not stimulate basic circulation, but it does stimulate the flow of the more subtle energies throughout the psychic centers and the nervous system.

The Crown chakra is our connection to the Divine, including our own divinity. Through this chakra we receive the life force energy supporting us in daily life; assisting us in creating balance and harmony by flowing and nourishing our body with light. The Crown is the "Connection valve" to the Universe and our higher Chakras that reside above it. It is where we access universal knowing and wisdom, and experience depth of insight and richness that surpass what we can intellectualize. When there is an imbalance we may feel unsupported by the Universe or feel direction-less, When balanced we feel plugged in and connected with full cosmic support. Pay attention to your ideas, as they are messages of true Divine guidance sent in answer to your prayers. You drew this card because the angels are asking you to trust and follow the ideas you've recently received, as they are the answers you've been seeking for your current situation. You already know the truth and the best course of action to take. Trust this knowingness, and take appropriate action. When you honor your ideas, the Universe reciprocates by sending you additional support while you make healthy life changes.

To connect to the gentle vibration of Violet, using various shades of purples, as well as lovely flowers like violets, lavender, and lilacs, you can enhance the energy of this color in your life. Wearing the color is soothing, and also I have found that the scents of these flowers does aid in relaxing the body, as well.

These are just a few colors that you can use and their associated Chakras to help bring more balance into various areas in As with all things, use what feels best and right for you and your lifestyle. I have used Color Therapy in various methods to bring more balance into my life. Sometimes I draw more of one color towards me and other areas get a bit out of balance.

By using colors to bring healing and awareness to my body, I am able to surround myself with the beautiful energetic vibrations of the colors around me. I still love green and it will always be my fave color, but sometimes I need more blue in my life. And other times - red is what calls me.

How do you use color in your life? Do you have a particular color that keeps finding you? Is there a lesson in the color showing up in your life?

These are all good questions to keep in mind, as well as checking in with your current body balance. Add some more color into your world!
